Question Map

The questions a firm’s buyers actually ask, in their words, each asked live to the AI answers, with who is named, which page is quoted, and which page of the firm’s own should own the answer.

A question map is short, twenty or thirty questions, and always more useful than its length suggests. It turns “be visible in AI” into a list of pages: for each question, the page that should answer it, plainly, and the date on which the question will be asked again.

Why It Matters

Answers concentrate. On the studio’s reference network the top 1 % of pages drew 35 % of Copilot’s citations, and a few hundred definition pages carried a third of them across thousands of searches. A firm does not need a page for every question; it needs one plain, consistent page for each fact its buyers’ questions turn on.

How the Studio Uses It

Each question is asked in Google’s AI Mode and in Copilot, in a signed-in browser, and the answer is recorded with its date. Most firms find three things on their first map: questions where nobody is named, an open space a plain page can take; questions where a competitor is quoted from a page that states the fact more plainly; and questions the firm’s own pages almost answer, where one sentence moved to the first screen is the whole fix. The map is read again at ninety days, against the same questions. An extract and the method: The Page the Machine Quotes.

How to Make One

  1. Collect the questions from the first messages buyers send, in their words, not the firm’s.
  2. Ask each in AI Mode and in Copilot; write down who is named and which page is quoted.
  3. For each, name the firm’s page that should own the answer, or the page that is missing.
  4. Date it, and ask the same questions again in ninety days.

Asked About
Question Map.

How many questions does a map need?

Twenty or thirty to start. A short map that is read again beats a long one that is not.

Why ask live instead of using a tool?

Tools estimate answers from their own sampled prompts. The engines’ own reports and the live answer are the record.

Who owns the map?

The firm. It belongs to its direction.
